What do graduates do?

helpWell, you may be curious about the jobs that graduates from your course have gone into?  Or you may like some help to decide what career would suit you?  You may have already looked at the Options with your degree sheets on the Prospects website, and would now like to get a wider perspective?   You can find the ‘destinations’ of  graduates in January 2014 on the Higher Education Careers Service Unit (HECSU) site.

So.. what have Brunel grads gone on to do?  Take a look.

What type of job would you like?

ah_ha_idea_800_11015If you want to know more about the many different types of jobs out there, take a look at the types of jobs on the Prospects website.

The Prospects profile will tell you in detail about each job – typical work activities, salary and conditions, entry requirements, training, career development, typical employers and links to sources of vacancies (including specialist recruitment agencies for that job sector).

Also included are case studies from people who tell you about their own experiences so you get a view from a real person in a real role.

There are about 400 job profiles on the Prospects website, giving you an insight into all kinds of jobs.  Just choose the job profile you want to view.

Museums / heritage sector – kinds of jobs, where to look ..

This covers jobs like working in museums or art galleries, either as an administrator or as a curator, or maybe working for the local authority in their heritage / leisure departments.

Take a look at the profiles on the Prospects website for Museum / gallery exhibitions officer, Museum education officer, Museum / gallery curator, Heritage manager.  The profiles give you detailed info on each particular job, typical work activities, training and career development, typical employers and sources of vacancies.

Completing our look at planning/surveying as a possible career option, take a look at:

Planning – an info hub for planning professionals.  The website contains sector news and analysis on regeneration and renewal, economic development, housing and communities and environment, planning policy and legislation, with town planning job vacancies advertised. AdMISSION IPA’s careers website for people who want to get into advertising, media and marketing communications. (IPA is the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising – the institute for leading agencies in the UK’s advertising, media and marketing communications industry, covering the creative, direct marketing, healthcare, media, new media, outdoor, sales promotion and sponsorship sectors).

AdMISSION gives you information on routes into the advertising industry, job roles and an industry guide to the different types of ad agencies. For instance, do you know the difference between creative, digital, social media, direct marketing and branded content agencies? Also, you can read up on what makes an account manager, an account planner, a copywriter, a media planner and a media buyer – so you get some idea what people doing these jobs actually do every day.

Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) – Worldwide professional marketing body. Defines the marketing standards that operate in the UK. Provides membership, qualifications and training to marketing professionals

Direct Marketing Association (DMA) – Trade association in the marketing and communications sector. Aims to protect consumers and raise industry standards. Members include agencies, list brokers and mailing houses, as well as blue-chip corporations
