Voluntary work – with a difference – in schools

If you’re interested in working with young people in the community and in schools have a look at the City Year programme. Over a 7 month period graduates work as ‘corps members’ in the following ways:

  • working in schools as tutors, mentors and role models;
  • leading in-school and after-school programmes and community projects; and
  • receiving training and support linked to both their service in schools and leadership after City Year.

It’s a great opportunity for anyone interested in an education, youth and community or social care career. Although it’s a volunteering scheme you won’t be out of pocket and will receive a £100 per week allowance, a Citizen Service Award of up to £1000 and a free travel card.

If you’re interested in applying for the scheme have a look at their website and apply using the online application form.
